Frankston Memorial Park is currently reaching capacity and in need of renewal. The design program locates interstitial sites within the cemetery for additional storage of cremains, and proposes an alternative form of ‘family tree’ memorial niche. Paths and roads throughout the site are upgraded with shade trees in swales, defining edge treatments, with the whole supported through a water conservation strategy derived from the topography of the site. The irrigation and the alternative cremation structures will ensure the economic viability of the Memorial Park. The design creates a place of contemplation and solace while maintaining an emphasis on water conservation.
