Charles Anderson & Tim Schork @ MARS Gallery

Cloud Chambers, December 2011

How can we talk about networks and society today? And how can we possibly not?! We are so entangled in their complex webs that we cannot imagine life without them. Yet for the same reason we cannot really imagine what life is like with them. They are our medium, ever present but invisible, like water to a fish.

Cloud Chambers engages with the intricate networks of relationships that sustain our lives and within which we are all entangled. While these networks have a virtual presence, they are commonly physically absent. Cloud Chambers renders these dynamic networks and ephemeral architectures visible and makes their complex underlying behaviours tangible to the visitor of the exhibition.

An aspect of this work is to engage with notions of complexity and indeterminacy, as well as aiming towards new understandings of form which develop implicitly from the organisational characteristics of network structures and to introduce this understanding to a wider audience.

Cloud Chambers is the most recent work made by Charles Anderson and Tim Schork as part of their on-going collaborative project titled Punto in Aria.
